What is FretBoard?

FretBoard is an Open Source PalmOS reference tool under GPL license for players of the stringed instruments, supporting Guitar, Banjo, Bouzouki, Bass (4, 5 and 6 string), Mandolin, Violin, Dulcimer, Chapman Stick, alternative guitar tunings and many other instruments. Currently FretBoard holds a collection of 70 instrument tunings in 11 instrument groups. A complete list can be found here.

The main features of Fretboard

  • Display the position of notes on the fretboard of virtually any stringed instrument (currently FretBoard sports 70 different tunings for instuments from 4 to 14 strings).
  • Display of chords in every key (with one-touch access to chord spellings)
    • 56 chords are in the database
  • Display of scales and modes in every key
    • 56 scales in the database
  • Allows you to hear the selected note, scale or chord.
  • Allows you to add/delete notes to scales or chords with a simple tap.
  • When you quit, the current view is saved as the default.
  • Allows you to orient the picture of the neck in whichever direction you prefer.
