Thanks to cnet for including FretBoard in the small article iPhone app teaches you scales and modes
Wow, it took Apple only 7 days to approve v1.5 of FretBoard and FretBoard LE – that is only half of the time they needed for former updates! Thanks Apple.
Here are the changes in v1.5:
Several tunings were added: – a bunch of “drop” tunings for guitar – several 7 string guitar tunings – 5 string mandolin with low C – Stanley Jordan bass tuning – Toni Iommi’s C# tuning – Jeff Loomis tuning – Jimmy Page’s legendary Kashmir tuning – Matt Dacek’s 8 string bass tuning
Now FretBoard holds a total of 132 instrument tunings.
In former versions selecting the bariton guitar crashed the application. This is fixed now.
The Stick Guitarâ„¢ tunings had several problems. The frets were displayed in wrong positions and FretBoard did not respect the tuning convention for these instruments. This is all fixed and the display should match these instruments now.
For an even more individual landscape display we added 4 nifty background graphics.
Download FretBoard today at the AppStore.
This is a major database update. FretBoard now contains 82 scales and 55 chords to be displayed in every key on 111 instrument tunings. In all keys and on all instruments these are 109224 scales and 73260 chords. This is the largest database currently available on the iPhone.
The changes are as follows:
- note symbols can be erased with a log push of the certain symbol’s button
- add mixo-blues scale. Now FretBoard holds 58 scales in it’s database
- “sawmill” banjo tuning added
- added Don White’s tunings for 7 and 8 string guitar
- Charango tuning added
- standard baritone guitar tuning added
- corrected the position of fretmarkers for Warr guitar tunings
- only frets with fretmarkers are now numbered
- the fretnumbers position follows the position of the symbols on the fretboard
- compatible with iPhone OS 3.1
Yesterday Apple approved the 1.2 update of FretBoard and FretBoard LE. The update incorporates the following changes:
- FretBoard now has skin support. You can choose from several woods, strings and inlays to personalize the look of the landscape view.
- New optional display of fretmarkers. The instruments database now holds fretmarkers positions for most of the instruments.
- eliminated the status bar in landscape view
- the nut is now indicated with an x instead of an 0
- mandolin tuning is now available as 4 course and 5 course version
- fixed a bug in the “6 course Renaissance Tenor Lute” and added tuning for 8 and 10-course tuning and the 13-course Baroque Lute
- FretBoard now sports 101 instrument tunings in 14 instrument groups
- FretBoard is now ready for the iPhone OS 3.0

While we are all waiting for Apple approving FretBoard 1.2, here is a wonderful inlay artwork made by Sean Stirling.
Today we released the new version 1.2 of FretBoard and FretBoard LE to Apple for approvement. There is a great new feature, that you will really love, but you will have to wait for Apple to know what I mean. ;-)

The free version of FretBoard for PalmOS is still available. You can download the latest version which was released 2004 at the Sourceforge repository.
You better view this in fullscreen mode for best results…
Wow, this is beyond my expectations: FretBoard LE had more than 1200 downloads on the first day. But only two user comments (both with 5 stars)…
Let’s wait for the numbers of the next days.
